A new backfield and another chance in January
Tomlinson spent his last two NFL seasons with the Jets after nine years in San Diego. In 2010, he rushed for 914 yards and caught 52 passes while sharing backfield work with Shonn Greene. He accepted a different workload in New York and continued to contribute as both a runner and receiver. The Jets’ January games gave that partnership its biggest stage.

His willingness to share the backfield helped the Jets manage a long season. A rested veteran then gave them two crucial postseason scores.
After sitting out the regular-season finale, Tomlinson ran for 82 yards and both Jets touchdowns in their 17–16 playoff win at Indianapolis.
