Running back · Jets 1998–2005
Quiet work with a purpose beyond football
Martin explained that football was not originally his deepest passion; it became a way to help other people. That purpose supported the patient, consistent work Jets fans saw every Sunday. He arrived in 1998, helped the team reach the AFC Championship Game, and won the NFL rushing title at 31 in 2004. His teammates’ regard lives on in the team MVP award bearing his name.
The person behind the name
His consistency gave the offense a dependable starting point. His reasons for playing also connect the rushing records to the people he wanted to help.
Martin rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his first seven Jets seasons.
Jets years: 1998–2005. The honors above distinguish team recognition from Canton’s whole-career recognition.
