Running back · Jets 1964–1972

The runner who gave the promise its force
Snell gave the Jets’ biggest promise its physical foundation. He carried 30 times for 121 yards and their lone touchdown in Super Bowl III, while also catching passes and protecting Joe Namath. He had been the first member of his family to attend college before joining New York out of Ohio State. The Jets remembered that toughness and selflessness when he died in March 2026.
The person behind the name
His running made the Super Bowl game plan work. Catching and blocking gave the Jets more ways to keep the offense moving around Namath.
