Leadership that lasted well beyond the huddle

Grantham linked the original Titans to the Super Bowl champions. Undersized for a linebacker, he relied on speed, tackling and an understanding of the defense that teammates trusted. His care for teammates continued after football: he worked with Freedom House and helped arrange a proper funeral for former Jet Sam Walton after Walton died homeless. The story of No. 60 includes both leadership and loyalty.

The person behind the name

Their Jets story.

His teammates trusted the way he understood the defense. His later care for former players made that sense of responsibility last beyond football.

Chosen by his teammates

The Jets voted Grantham their team MVP in 1971, near the end of his thirteen-season career.

Jets years: 1960–1972. The honors above distinguish team recognition from Canton’s whole-career recognition.
